Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddygore

The University of Portsmouth Dramatic & Musical Society (DMS) and Orchestra will give four performances of Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddygore, on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th March (7.30pm), and Saturday 5th March (2.30 and 7.30) at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth.

The show was significantly cut by G&S after the premiere in 1887, but the cuts were done in haste and not always very judiciously, so we have restored the show to its former glory, and indeed to the original spelling of its title.

The show was billed as a "supernatural opera" because one of the most memorable scenes features portraits coming to life but, as usual for G&S, it is a comedy, and has some of their best music.

Our portraits have been painted for us by local artist Ian Sherman.
