Community choirs
Portsmouth Sings! involves highly effective partnerships with Portsmouth Pensioners Association, The Learning Place and Portsmouth City Council as well as local choirs.
'Another successful special programme is Portsmouth Sings! an inter-generational project funded through Generations Together. Seven choirs across the city cater for singers up the age of 25 and over 50. Members are very enthusiastic and the programme has attracted local media attention. The MSEP visited one choir in rehearsal a few days after a successful joint concert at which over 60 members from across the choirs joined together to perform. The youngest participants were aged nine years and the eldest over 80. Participants, who were introduced to three new pieces, learned aurally and sang in parts with enthusiasm and with developing technical control. The success of the session was in no small part due to the inspirational leadership of the director who skilfully engaged all of the participants all of the time.'
