Chat, Play, Read is a Portsmouth City Council-led initiative designed to support early childhood development by encouraging families to engage in simple, everyday activities that boost communication, language, and literacy skills.
Aimed at children aged 0–5, Chat, Play, Read promotes the importance of talking, playing, and reading together as key building blocks for a child’s future learning and wellbeing.
The resources below empower parents and caregivers to create rich learning environments at home and in their communities.
As part of the initiative, selected Year 2 children from three Portsmouth schools participated in creative workshops led by guest rap artist and filmmaker Ricky Tart.
These sessions, held at Manor Infant School, St. George's Beneficial Primary School, and Bramble Infant School and Nursery involved children in the filming of a brand-new Chat, Play, Read rap video.
Here are your resources to help you learn the Chat, Play, Read Rap at home—get ready to sing, learn, and have fun while practicing!
